“Erectile Dysfunction” is a term used when a man has a strong desire to perform a sexual act with a co-operative partner, but is unable to do so because he cannot maintain a complete erection. Complete erectile dysfunction is referred to as impotence.
Erectile dysfunction occurs with many other disorders like, frustration, tiredness and sometimes stress. It is observed that young men regain their sexual potency after proper medication and treatment. The term “erectile dysfunction” broadly means the inability to achieve erection, or an inconsistent ability to do so, or the ability to achieve only a brief erection.
Treatment for Erectile Dysfunction
Mechanical vacuum device: This is one of the most effective treatments of erectile dysfunctions. It creates a partial vacuum, which eventually causes erection by increasing the blood circulation in the penis. You can divide the device into 3 components: A cylinder made up of plastic (used for placing the penis); a pump (for drawing out the air from the plastic cylinder); last, but not the least, an elastic band (the band helps in maintaining the erection after the plastic cylinder is taken away).
Penile injection is an effective treatment for erectile dysfunctions that can be done without any surgery. A person can inject medicine directly into his penis. This results into a perfect erection within a few minutes. Side effects include dizziness and prolonged erections may also be a problem. Medical advice should be taken before administering these injections.
Penile implants: Penile implants are placed inside the penis. This device helps people suffering from erectile dysfunction to achieve a proper erection. Penile implants are tubes that mimic the penis and the erection process. These implants are expensive because they require surgery and there is a risk of infection. The implant can cause permanent internal damage to the penis.
Oral medications: These are the most popular with Viagra commonly taken in pill form. Approximately an hour later the drug is absorbed into the bloodstream. This drug inhibits a particular enzyme found in the penis. This results in an increased blood flow to the penis and a good erection. These medications mostly bring in side effects like facial flushing, headache, and stomach upset.
Emotional effects of erectile dysfunction
Men who experience erectile usually suffer the effects of anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and decrease in quality of life. Communication is important between a man and his partner to overcome erectile dysfunction and the first step is to be open with your partner about your fears and concerns. According to Watkins Bruner, men often get frustrated when they fail to have the first sexual intercourse after undergoing treatment for erectile dysfunction. But, that is not really important. Irrespective of erectile dysfunctions, men and women can have a loving and balanced relationship so long as they realize that it’s not all about sex. When communication increases it decreases the pressure on the male partner to perform. And that can be a great aphrodisiac. The lesser the pressure to perform, the better the erection; but it will happen only when the affected male partner feels less under pressure.
